In order to qualify for any prescription assistance programs all of the pharmaceutical manufacturers have income guidelines they adhere to. The intent of these programs is to be a last resort for those patients who do not have an insured prescription drug benefit and those that meet the strict income guidelines. Most of the companies will set their guidelines at 200% of the Federal Poverty Level or below in order to qualify for their prescription assistance programs.

For purposes of determining whether or not your income meets the guidelines, you first need to determine how many people are in your household. This is determined by a spouse and any dependents that are claimed or would be claimed on your federal tax return, if you filed. If you did not file a tax return, then the number of people in the household would include your spouse and any dependents that rely upon you principally for support. This would not include relatives who file their own tax return or dependent grandchildren who are claimed on their parent’s tax return, or friends of the family who are staying with you.

Once you have figured out the number of people in the household, then it is easy to see whether or not you pre-qualify for prescription assistance, based upon the Federal Poverty Level chart.

Remember, income limits vary by drug company. If we cannot help you, you will not be charged.
